We have a manhole in the drive which I lifted a few days ago to reveal 1" pipe with a cut off tap. There was rain overnight and after lifting the cover again this morning found there was 6 inches of water in the cavity, covering the tap. I assume this has come from the cover - there was a lot of rust around it and it did not seal well. I am not sure if this is a new situation or if the cover has always leaked. Anyone aware if these covers are expected to be watertight or if this is something to worry about?
