Correct Mortar Mix for Roof Verge

by Mccfuzz » Tue Jun 20, 2017 2:21 pm

Hi there,

Over four years ago I repaired about two metres of roof verge using a mix of 4 sharp sand to one of cement. The good news is it is still as solid as a rock. I used this mix because as a complete roofing novice I happened on to this site:-
http://www.diy-extra.co.uk/repairing-roof-verges.html

I'm now about to replace the lot but since then I've been on other websites that suggest completely different mixes. eg 3:1 sand cement etc.
Can anyone give a good reason why I shouldn't use the original mix. I might add that the gap between tile and roof is quite large.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts and advice!

Kev

Use a Building sand/sharp sand/ cement mix - 3:1:1, and quite dry

JB, I've not heard of that mix. Why is it preferable to 3 or 4:1 sand cement?

Grant.
