I have istalled a shower extractor fan but am stuck on the wiring detail. the fan has live and neutral and a 'timer' live. How do I connect to a one way ceiling switch which has only 2 terminals. I have so far used 1.5 twin core and earth and since earth is not required have used earth to the switched live and shrouded it with red tape. Thank you [/b]

Hi sorry but no go on several fronts,
first you can't connect to a switch as no Neutral there, second sleeving earth as sw. line is not allowed, you must use 3 core and earth even if not connecting at fan end!
wire to light fitting which will have perm loop-in Live, plus switched Live & Neutral.
lastly if shower is in bathroom then it's part-p work,

thank you for your prompt reply. I guess i'll have to rethink. What is part p work? If I use 3 core and earth what sort of switch should be used? Presumably the 2 terminal switch i have is no good for this job? Thanks again. Regards Fish

sparx. If I use new code 3 colour and erath for a timed fan, am I correct that the neutral should be grey?

To Pius10, yes the recommended wiring is as you say Grey to be sleeved blue as Neutral, brown = Live & sw, Live blk-sleeved Brown
Also on same subject if using 3 core S.W.Armoured cable then brn=L, grey = Neutral [Blue sleeved). & blk = Earth-green/yellow sleeved!
IET trying to get away from blk as Neutral as in 3 phase wiring it is now a L[phase] colour...
I have just been installing some 'new' cables into old 3Ph. board, WOW!
old colours, New colours duty
Red = brown = L1
yellow = black = L2
blue = grey = L3
black = Blue = N
so old blues = L - new blues =N
old blacks = N- new blacks=L all mixed up! but it will be OK 'cause I've stuck a warning notice on the door!!!!
