Advice on Purchasing Rollers for the Best Paint Job

by Hayleyfc7 » Sun Jul 30, 2017 4:31 pm

Hi

I've read so much online re choosing the correct roller, bought a few, am still unsure what is best for my paint job

I am using water based emaulsion and eggshell. I've tried HD foam rollers to paint furniture (stippled results!) and a 3/18 roller to paint a door in eggshell and walls in emulsion (stipples results!). Are my roller choices likely to be at fault?! I just want a smooth finish - or as smooth as possible!
I've sanded as best I can to start with and inbetween coats lightly.

Any help would be amazing as I'm fed up with orange peel effect and the thought of resanding and buying yet more paint!!

For any flat faces use a mini foam or rag roller to get the paint on, then lay it off with a decent synthetic brush (3" good for this) this smooths it out but gets enough on quickly for it not to drag.
For walls and ceiling try using a thinner pile roller, less knapp means less tangerine peel!
