There seems to be some confusion in this post.

bunda1961 you have 2 problems.
1) Even though the light is above the bath it can not have "any shade" (That your wife likes) it has to be suitably rated, which most "shades" are not
2) If you did have a pendant light it would need a suitably rated ceiling rose, these do not exist. (You may get away with using boxes and glands)
There is also the danger that anyone slipping the natural reaction would be to grab...............the light fitting
Then there is also the future when someone sees the pendant and just puts a normal "shade" on it
Tell you wife, very sorry, can't have pendant lights in a bathroom
