Why do Radiator Valves Keep Breaking?

by CherylH » Sun Jan 28, 2018 2:43 pm

I am continually replacing the heads on my thermostic radiator valves. They become brittle and just snap /bend off. It is so bad that I now keep a supply of at least 2 replacement heads ready to hand. I have just replaced the head on my living room radiator and I know I only replaced it last winter. It was working fine until last night when I turned it down (as I was lighting the wood burner) Why does this keep happening? Can the water be too hot, but surely thermostic valves are made to deal with high temperatures.

when you close a rad valve or any other always turn it back a bit to stop it locking
