Opening up Double Fireplace That's Back to Back Between 2 Rooms All manner of questions and solutions to problems and issues surrounding the subject of brickwork, blockwork and stonework

I have a double fireplace which is situated back to back, dividing two rooms, I want to open up the gap between the two to allow a double sided fire stove to be inserted (so it can be viewed from both the front and the back). I am unsure on
1) Would the dividing wall between the two fireplaces require a lintel?
2) If so how would one insert a lintel into the central wall?
