Replacing and Tiling Skirting in Kitchen Advice and information on tiling and fixing tiles to a variety of surfaces

I want to replace my wooden skirting board in kitchen (due to puppy chewing damage!) with tiles.

But there will be a gap from floor tiles to wall after removing original skirting. Is it possible to replace skirting with a thinner wood and then tile on top of the wood? To ensure no gaps?
