Changing Ceiling Rose to 3 lamp ceiling light

by marvin900 » Mon Aug 27, 2007 3:29 pm

I am an novice to electrics and want to replace the current ceiling rose with a new 3 bulb ceiling light.

I have 2 x core wires coming from the ceiling, both with a red, black and earth cable. These were connected to the ceiling rose. I have disconnected and marked up the core for the switch. The black for the switch was connected to the live bank in the rose.

The new ceiling light fitting has a connector block with what appears to be a new "Grip" connection for the cables.

However, the problem is that connector block only has 2 holes for each of the live, earth and neutral.

Am I correct in thinking that the black neutral for the switch core needs to be connected to one of the live points?

If this is the case, this would mean that I would be left with 2 x live red cables (one from the light core and one from the switch core) but only one live connector point on the block.

How do I connect the final two live cables (assuming I put the other neutral and earths in the other points in the block)?

I hope this makes sense.

Thanks.
