Issues Drilling into the Living Room Wall to Hang TV

by Klw7me » Mon Mar 26, 2018 6:04 pm

I am trying to put a tv up on the wall and am having some issues

I used a stud finder to find the studs and upon drilling into the wall I hit something hard so I grabbed my SDS drill and found it’s metal and pretty hard. I could probably go through it with the SDS drill but stopped myself as wasn’t too sure.

It’s a brand new house and it’s in a first floor bedroom backing onto a bathroom. There is a towel radiator on the other side but that is fastened lower down on the wall and I can’t understand why the pipes would be going up to the loft (no water tank in loft, boiler in kitchen and no pipes coming down in airing cupboard). I tried about 6 inches lower down the wall and it’s there too also I turned my stud finder to look for metal and it appears it’s about 6 inches wide and runs over the studs as it’s the same the next stud along.

I have tried to take a picture which I have attached

Can anyone shed some light on what I can do?

Are you sure they are not metal studs?

Or galvanized steel channel protecting cabling maybe?

Does it go the whole length of the stud?

Let me know,I've never come across them before myself. If it is you're right to stop. Can You place it a bit higher/lower?

I spoke to the builders as they are still
Building other houses on site and they are metal studs which is quite annoying so I have decided to use grip it fixings have used them before it’s a 40” tv so it’s more than capable to be held with them. Thankfully I am building a fake wall for the main tv with a fireplace underneath so can put wooden supports where I need them.
