Shower tile grout needs to be waterproofed

by kcarew98 » Fri Jul 27, 2018 7:02 pm

In the process of buying a house, but something the the bathroom caught my attention.

There's a stand up shower cubicle unit, tiled walls to three sides of it. But the previous owner has hung up some kind of a waterproof curtain all around the inside of the shower, as if to protect the tiles from the water.

It made me wonder if a cement grout was used or something that made the walls non-waterproof. Obviously I want to remove the curtain thing, but I need to make sure the tiled walls are completely waterproof.
How can I do this? I know there is such a thing as a waterproof epoxy grout, but I imagine I cant just put that on top. Can I easily remove the cement grouting without damaging the tiles?

Is there such as thing as a epoxy resin "paint" of sorts, that's completely clear and I can paint over all the tiles as grout completely to waterproof the walls?
Thanks
