Loft Floor Boarding and Ceiling Weight Support Advise

by hyperbole » Mon Aug 13, 2018 11:04 pm

I would like to board my loft but before I do just wanted to get some views on whether the ceiling is strong enough to hold additional weight of the boards.

I am planing to use it mostly for storage and have 1-2 people up there at the same time at most, maybe use it as a PC room.

The house is a bungalow that was built in the 60ies. The joists are 4x2, they are 35-40cm apart.
You can see the floor plan and joists layout here

There is also some sort of suspended frame built for the water tank that was in the loft before combi boiler was installed. The frame is suspended from rafters and is also attached to some joists which I think provides some additional support to the ceiling.

Any advise/opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.
