Need to Take Down Ceiling Under Minor leak if Fixed?

by Drjohn » Tue Oct 30, 2018 9:49 pm

Thanks in advance for any advice!

We have a minor leak from an upstairs shower cubicle- only a few spots on he ceiling below. It's almost certainly from a badly applied seal at the shower tray directly under the shower head.

If I sort out the seal, is this enough? Can I just rely on the timber/plaster under the shower tray drying in time or do I need to strip anything back to dry etc? Is the appearance the only consideration once the leak is fixed?

Cheers!

Depends on what the ceiling is made of. If its plaster board, good chance you can just re-decorate when dry. If its somthing like lathe & plaster, water can loosen the plasters grip & can come down at any time.
