My son had a loft conversion, as it was small and the height was limited the carpenter laid 4x2 alongside the existing 3x2 timbers and bolted them together then laid T&G chipboard. The span from front wall plate to spine wall is 2.9m and spine wall to back wall is 3.8m. The floor seems very rigid but the building control say they should have been 6x2. Using 3x2 plus 4x2 must be pretty good, can anybody calculate?
