We have a timber subtly sloping roof adjoining the side of our house. The roof has a felt surface and is sealed at the edges via metal flashing. Recently we've started getting water running down the wall below the seal, most of the way along it's length. Looking at the mortar joint for the flashing, I can see that the mortar for the flashing doesn't vertically overhang the flashing, but is instead slight concave with a slight 'ledge' visible on the flashing. Also, I can see a very subtle hairline crack at the joint between the flashing and the mortar, which is where I imagine the water is getting in. Does this sound right? If so, is there a way I can use some form of thin liquid waterproof liquid sealer to, at least temporarily, seal this joint? Other than this hairline cracking the mortar looks sound and I'm wary of doing more than is necessary.
