2400mm Chipboard to Fix Holes in Bathroom Floor

by Ashers » Wed Jan 02, 2019 4:24 pm

Afternoon,

I've had my On-Suite taken out and this has left three holes in the chipboard flooring around the size of a A5 piece of paper.

I've measured the width of chipboard and it appears to be 2400mm and I'm struggling to find chipboard to match. B&Q and Homebase seem to only have 1800mm max.

I intend to screw a wooden batten under the hole and then screw a piece of chipboard into this gap.

Please can I have your recommendations on alternative flooring to use OR where I can get 2400mm chipboard from?

Any other thoughts welcome.

I intend

Actually, whatever the original material in your bathroom floor, I would advise STRONGLY against using chipboard in any area where it might get wet. I'd use only marine [is made with water-proof adhesives] or good, old-fashioned, tongue&groove floorboards.
As for the patches you suggest in the holes themselves - well, they really won't make any difference. As the hole is to be covered [along with the rest of the floor] by the new sheet of flooring - it can't be seen and the area will NOT be made any stronger by the patch. Only material directly supported by the underfloor beams [the original floor and the new sheet laid on top of it] can bear any load from above [like YOUR weight].
The patch, as you describe it, would be supported ONLY by the screws in the wooden cross-bar.Would you like to bet on them taking your weight on their own?

So you’re saying not to patch and replace the whole chipboard area?

Still would need to find 2400mm thick chipboard.

The room is no longer an on-suite so won’t be in contact with water.
