How to Change Recessed Downlight in Shower?

by Sarahx » Thu Jan 10, 2019 4:44 pm

Has anyone seen this model of light fitting before/know how to release the bulb? I've changed other fittings in the same room but this one (directly above the shower) appears to be a more sealed unit.

I've taken the whole fitting out of the ceiling and tried unscrewing the white surround, pressing it to release it, pressing the glass cover itself and even unscrewing the two bits at the top (which I'm not sure are actually screws... they're mid-way between two alum keys). The two silicone bits move quite easily and I've pried off the dark brown plastic below it, which is starting to break (presumably due to residual heat over the past 4 years, since it was installed).

The annoying thing is, I can see the clips holding the bulb in place, but they're behind this sealed plastic surround/glass cover unit, which doesn't appear to unscrew.

Anyone have any ideas?

It's hard to see, but there's a thick plastic/glass cover almost flush with the plastic surround here, so I can just reach in and release the bulb.

I think it is a large circlip in front of glass, this was at one time the standard method, real pain to remove.
