Hi Guys,

I've recently bought a new home with my wife & got the walls plastered throughout but just a tad worried about the paint!

After allowing the walls to dry for a couple of weeks, my wife & mother-in-law kindly offered to start the painting while I was away with work to get things going.

With experience of painting fresh plaster, I've always used a mist coat prior to the emulsion. Although I noticed they hadn't painted with a mist coat. The paint seems to have dried well but wondered whether to expect any long term effects?

I know if this was in the bathroom, it may be a problem with condensation etc!

Any advice would be appreciated!

You can only see how it goes. But, yes, it is always best to mist coat it at at least 50/1 minimum. Not a lot you can do now.

All new plaster should be clean and dry and always mist coated to take the suction out of the new plaster and makes putting on more coats easier to apply.
I was was doing a job 2 weeks ago and there was a bubble on the wall Emulsion so I got my putty knife and opened it up before I knew it I had a 4 inch scraper on the wall and the Emulsion on the wall just completely stripped off without any effort, and this was due to who ever done the job had put a coat of neat vinyl silk to the new plaster. Always mist coat. But everything crossed for you that you have no issues.
