I'm new to the forums and have a question about cellar flooring.
I've got a ground floor victorian terrace conversion flat, with a narrow 1.5m x 5m x 1.5m coal cellar. The floor is currently just dirt, and the stepped footings of the party wall can be seen. One of the previous owners has laid down flat some old doors as makeshift flooring over the dirt.
In order to make the space a bit more usable and less dirty I was thinking of putting down a dumpy bag of gravel which could be roughly levelled to provide some stability, while also allowing any rainwater that gets in to drain away easily
Is there anything problematic about this approach? Could the gravel erode the footings? If reselling, would a potential buyer be put off by gravel in a cellar? I'm aware that once the gravel is in, it would be a pain to have to dig it out again so just want to sense-check my thinking.
