What Additions can be Made to the Outside of a Barn Conversion?

by crampy » Thu Aug 13, 2015 10:16 am

Hi all, don't know if anyone on here can help but here goes....

I'm currently looking at buying a barn with planning for 2 dwellings with a friend. Idea is to have one side each and live there. One side has the classic barn arch and a porch on the plans. the other side doesn't. I'm wondering how much you can change the outside appearance. ie can we add another arch and a porch to the other side of the barn? Ideally i'd like an arch with bi-fold doors out to the garden. any feedback much appreciated. thanks

you will need to have plans done with the alterations on them, and then resubmit to the local council for approval.
Do not try to skip this step as they can make you remove the work you have done

If the barn is a listed building as mine was then you will have little scope to alter the outside appearance. As has already been said you must submit any new plans/elevations to the local authority
