Unscrewing Handle on Merlyn 10 Shower Door

Does anyone know how to unscrew the handle on a Merlyn 10 shower door? The installation guide says it cannot be done once the handle is fitted, but why is that? I’ve tried with both hands, but there’s not enough purchase.
