Nest Heat Link in Bathroom Near Boiler? Ask questions and find answers to many subjects relating to electrics and electrical work

Hello.

Currently my thermostat is on the wall just before you enter the bathroom. My boiler is in the bathroom.

My plan was to put the heat link inside the bathroom and the nest screen in my bedroom. I’ve had someone told me I can’t put the heatlink in the bathroom near the boiler due to regulations around mains wiring. Is this right?

For any electrical item, it must be suitable for the environment, I don't know how much moisture is in your bathroom, or distant evolved, so it may be permitted to fit the heat link, although it may need to go in an enclosure, the same as the boiler, it may or may not be permitted in the bathroom.

One has to use some common sense, many boilers are sealed, they have no connection to room they are fitted in, and if you mount the heat link inside a water proof enclosure then it too has no connection to the room.

Next is not so easy, where the thermostat is placed is where it measures the temperature, so that needs to be where you want the thermostat to measure, there are exceptions, the EvoHome thermostat measures the temperature from the TRV heads, not the display point, and Nest works with Energenie MiHome, I am not sure how it interconnects? It may be that if using linked TRV's you can fit the thermostat where you like? since it has not been cold since the thermostat has been fitted, I am not sure.

But you don't talk about using TRV heads, so the thermostat needs to be in one of two places, either coolest room in the house, with no alternative form of heating, and no outside door, or the main room in the house, "nest screen in my bedroom" does not seem to fit either.

So it would seem there is an error.

Personally I found the space in the Nest heat link terminal bar rather limited, and I would expect you would need some form of connection unit/junction box, as well as Nest heat link?

So with my Nest I have two junction boxes, one with the pumps and motorised valves, and one where all the wires come out of the wall, either end of where cable go behind the tiles.

I would expect you will need to do some thing similar, and you have to decide will the items likely get damp? Inside a boxed in area below the boiler which hides the pipe work, likely not a problem, but where some ones bad aim could allow urine to splash on it, that would be a big problem.

There is no hard and fast rule, remember under the bath if panels are screwed in place is not part of bathroom, but if panels are clipped in place it is.

I assume if boiler is already in bathroom it is not too wet and the bathroom is large or has a partitioned off bit so boiler is not technically in the bathroom.

You really need to use common sense, only if property is rented do you need to be very careful, otherwise use common sense.
