DiY newbie (please assume minimal knowledge) here.
A bathroom floor tile cracked so got a decorator in to replace with new nicer looking ones as couldn't find identical ones.
Not long after he did the job, cracks appeared in the grout, and some water damage appeared between the bath and the toilet. At the time I noticed there was also a little pool of water on the far side of the toilet. Since then - a good 6 weeks ago - there has been no further leakage or moisture.
He says that at the time of the job he told me the board under the tiles was pretty worn and could do with replacing "but it should last for a while". He says movement in this board has caused the cracks. He thinks the water came from someone splashing water from the shower into the open cracks and then it collected and pooled and came out the toilet side (would explain why there hasn't been any more moisture there'). Could have been an airbnb guest not using shower curtain properly I guess.
Pictures below. I feel like I've been ripped off a bit - given poor advice. Surely you shouldn't just retile if you can see there's a problem? Yes he did mention it but if you think it's going to cause damage to your fresh handiwork isn't that really poor practice not to insist on getting it replace?
Would appreciate some advice on that and also what I need to get it sorted. Should I get a plumber in to make sure nothing is actually leaking? Or just get a carpenter and decorator in to replace board and retile?
