Hi,
Let me just start off by saying I'm not mega experienced at DIY. I can happily put a regular sized garden gate together but for this one I might end up asking for help as it could turn out to be a bigger job than I'm thinking, which is why I wanted to ask around first.
Currently, the back garden contains a relatively thin driveway that just about fits the car, the trouble is the gates to get in leave very little room either side making it nearly impossible when it's even a bit dark. I'm also planning on extending this to a double driveway in the future.
So my end goal is to have a gate that can open up to the full width of the back garden wall to wall. This comes in at just over 14ft. What I think I want (unless I can find a better idea) is to have a folding gate on either side so that it opens all the way up but I can still actually close them withoung needing a big open space to do so.
My main concern is the weight of the gates. I'm happy to use relatively lightweight wood since that's all that is there right now and it's also being another metal gate further down the road. I'm thinking more functional than fancy but I don't know if I'm just going to rip the posts down as soon as I hang the gates up.
I've also looked at those tracks that the gate slides along but I'm not sure if they are more for ease of use rather than carrying any load.
Any advice on this would be really appreciated as it's just a bigger level of job than I've done before.
Here are some pictures of the existing gate that is falling to bits.
Thanks a lot!
