Combining Two 12v PSU Outputs for 24v

by andyh747 » Mon Oct 07, 2019 12:45 pm

I have a 9 output CCTV wall mounted PSU with battery backup. I have several vacant outputs on this PSU and need a 24v DC output for a device rated at 24v DC 250ma. Each of the PSU outputs is rated at 12v DC 2A.

I'm wondering whether it's possible on these types of PSU to combine two of the outputs in series to produce a 24v DC output? Would this be feasible and is there are harm in trying this?

It would cost less if you were to buy a dedicated 24v power supply.

The theory is you can connect two power supplies together, but it has been known to fail with interesting results.

Yes I’ve decided in a new 24v PSU.

Many thanks.
