Hi
We couldn't get a new PVD letterbox the same size as the old one so had to go bigger. The problem now it is fitted is that the flap is too long for the depth of the door panel in which the letterbox sits. The result is that the flap protrudes inside the door and is obstructed by our intended letter tidy on the inside. When a letter is posted the flap gets stuck in the bristles of the letter tidy and doesn't close back down again. I have attached some photos to illustrate the issue.
The joiner is suggesting that we get a different letter tidy, namely a taller one, but I don't see how that would solve the problem. I can imagine that a deeper letter tidy that came back further from the surface of the door panel might work but don't know of any for this situation (door panel with letter box in timber section between two glazed units).
The joiner's other suggestion is that he mounts a piece of timber between the door panel and the tidy and attaches the letter tidy to this to give the necessary clearance.
Any thoughts or ideas on how to resolve would be greatly appreciated.
