Solar Film or inserts for polycarbonate roof profile

by arthur49 » Thu Dec 18, 2008 2:44 pm

Lean to conservatory 4m x 3m - 2 years old

Can get unbearably hot in the summer even up here in central Scotland! Not too keen on internal blinds to reduce the heat. Quite favour the insert kits where a foil type material is inserted into the profile but means removing and replacing the end tape etc so invalidating the guarantee.
Perhaps solar film is the way forward?
Anyone any experience of the different options?
Many thanks

I had the same problem, while being in London, the temperature got up to 140f at times. Totally imossible to live with.
Solution that worked for me was a solid roof.

Best solution is glass roof ,There is a new self cleaning blue tinted glass on the market designed for this type of situation,Not really as expensive as you would think.
Ask your local conservatory installers for more information

I know this post is old but this might be seful to others.

We have solar film on our glass roofed conservatory (12x18ft). Other than cutting down on the glare on the telly it does not cut down the summer heat and does nothing to retain heat in the summer. We have considered replacing the roof with a proper insulated one but now think we are going to opt for a stove for those winter months (Oct-Feb) when the conservatory is colder than the fridge!

This is the mirrored reflective window film we used at home - https://www.windowfilm.co.uk/buy-online/window-film-by-the-metre/solar-control/high-reflective-silver-window-film

Looks great and now dressing/undressing in the day is "snoop-proof" ;)
