Question Regarding Render on Parapet Walls

by Weston80 » Mon Nov 04, 2019 10:32 pm

Hi all, we had a roof overhaul done last year, and the people that did it had to remove render from parapet walls whilst doing so. Turns out that they weren't re-rendered, and this is potentially allowing a leak in one part of the attic. After difficulty in getting any response from the roofer that did it, we got a couple of other roofers to take a look, and whilst they both say that the walls should be rendered, once I had finally managed to speak to the original roofer he has said that they don't need to be rendered. Every other house has full rendering on these walls... who is right?

Hi

Theres no legal or building regs to have walls rendered, render is either done for water proofing or visual effect.

If your wall looks ok and isn't leaking, there is no reason why it should be rendered just because the others are.

If your roof/wall is water proof as it is, it isn't going to be any more water proof, it will just look a bit nicer and match the other properties.

Hope this helps

Kind Regards
