I just moved into a council house, which was built within the last 30 years.
In the living room is an electric fireplace, and a gsh radiator.
Beside the radiator there is an airvent at the bottom of the wall, and another airvent inline with it at the top of the wall.
The lower airvent brings in so much cold air that I have covered it over and blocked it with cardboard to the point there is now no draught from it at all. I have left the higher airvent unblocked, but it doesnt even blow in much air, you can hold your palm infront of it by a centimetre and you wont even feel air so in terms of ventilation it is useless, meaning essentially I have two blocked air vents.
Now I have blocked the lower vent though, I need clarification that it is Ok, and wont be dangerous, there are so many conflicting views online, some say now it's an electric fireplace it is fine to have it blocked up other than it could create a damp situation, which surely you can avoid by having the window open a little while everyday anyway.
Others say it is essential to have the vent unblocked because of having the GSH radiator.
The combi boiler is upstairs in a cupboard nowhere near the living room.
So the whole thing is confusing.
I need a majority opinion on this please, is it safe for me to leave the vent blocked and still use the electric fire and GSH with no safety issues?
