Class 2 Ceiling Light When no Earth? Ask questions and find answers to many subjects relating to electrics and electrical work

We had our 1930's house rewired some years ago when we moved in. However I have taken down a very old ceiling light in our porch to find that it is still the old cabling. Red and black with no earth present. I'm not surprised that wasn't done at the time as the only way to get above it would be to take the plaster down or remove the porch tiled roof above.

I want to replace the ceiling light and presume that the simplest option for me would be to replace it with a Class 2 light.

Is this correct or anything else I need to consider?

To have no earth mean pre-1966 so likely rubber cable, so there may be rubber cable. If the cable is PVC then the electrical safety council gives instructions of how it can be used as you say with class II fittings, however I would be wary and be testing rather carefully to ensure the cables are sound.
