building a new hearth

by tor » Thu Sep 06, 2007 10:07 pm

I have recently taken out an old fireplace in order to have an open fire and want to replace the hearth with a piece of slate or slate tiles. Need help on where to get slate and how to lay it. Any help would be appreciated!

try a monumental mason or fireplace supplier. there are rules & regs about open fires with size of hearth required and expansion gaps (i know as i am doing this at the moment) problem with slate is it is very prous and could look discoloured and dirty after a short time
