Removing paint and restoring wall to garden room

by Spampanther » Sat Apr 18, 2020 7:27 pm

I have a garden room where the paint work has always looks mouldy/bobbled/blistered (not sure of the correct word) but please see pictures. I have started to attack this to remove the peeling paint which comes off quite thick. I'm really not sure why the paint was in such a mess (I assume because these are external damp walls) however I am not really sure where to go next and would really appreciate some advice.

Hi spampanther,
It looks like the ground level is higher than the floor level. If this is the case (and your neighbour has soil piled against your side wall) you need to sort this as a first step.

Hi,

Thanks for your response. I rather worried that would be the issue. The outside space is actually my garden and there isn't really a possibility of lowering the ground level without a huge excavation project. As this is an extension to the house do I just have to live with damp walls and never paint them?

Thanks again.

Hi spampanther,
Afraid so - no painting just bare damp bricks.

Thanks, really appreciate the advice. Apologies, just one last question is it worth having the walls re-pointed?

Thanks again.

Hi spampanther.
If the wall is one brick thick then yes. If it is two bricks thick then only repoint if you want to improve its appearance.
