Interaction between extractor and ceiling fan in kitchen

by jeffas » Thu Apr 23, 2020 10:19 am

I have a kitchen/dining room. Hob with extractor fan is at one end. There's a light fitting at each end of the room. I want to fit a ceiling fan on one of the light fittings. If I fit it at the hob end, is the air flow from the ceiling fan likely to have a detrimental effect on the operation of the extractor fan?
The room is 3.2m across; the near light fitting is 1.5m from the extractor, the far light fitting is 3.5m from the near one.

Hi Jeffas,
Sounds like you are proposing a stirring fan so it doesn't matter which end it is located.

Thanks @stoneyboy. Yes, it's a 46" Westinghouse "Carla" http://www.westinghouselighting.com/cei ... 25100.aspx.
I was concerned that making the air swirl about would disrupt the air flow from hob to extractor, making the extraction less effective.
