Mystery material in old water tank

by LordBerkley » Sun May 03, 2020 8:29 pm

I’ve recently moved into a 1950s build ex council house and I’m planning on boarding out the loft. There is a redundant water tank in the loft that I was going to remove before carrying out any works. The tank looks relatively modern being made of plastic, however inside it however there is a dark yellow / orange fibrous fabric material that looks to be quite old, see photos. Does this look worrying, i.e. is it likely to be asbestos? I was planning on testing some artex ceilings for asbestos, is this mystery material something else that I should get tested as well? I appreciate the best thing to do is just to get it tested, but I’m wondering if I’m worrying over nothing or not. Any replies much appreciated.

Hi lordberkley,
The material is the old tank jacket which is felt on hessian matting. Wear a mask when disposing of it.
