Moving sewage drain for new extension - Section 106

by Habigal » Tue May 12, 2020 7:45 pm

We have submitted permitted development for a one storey rear extension. We have a private drain and manhole currently running into our connecting neighbour but nobody runs into our drains.

Southern water declined our build saying we had a main sewer change of direction in place of where we wanted our extension. We have had CCTV and the main sewer is across the back of our garden and our other side neighbours connects directly into.

So my question now Southern water have given us a conditional yes for our extension. But it would be a lot easier for us to connect directly to the main sewage rather then having to redirect all the pipes around the new extension with likely 3 new manholes.

We are thinking of apply for a section 106 new connection to a main sewer and then we would just need a straight pipe through the garden and a manhole. I have however heard Southern Water are a nightmare and worried how long it would take them to make a decision or if they even would. We don’t want to be delayed for months. Does anyone have any experienced good or bad? Thanks
