Outdoor doorstep tiling help and advice needed

by Joelh » Wed May 27, 2020 5:00 pm

Hi all,

I'm having a new door put in so while I'm at it I thought I'd get rid of the 1970's retro tiles on the door step! I've chipped off the old tiles but around around the sides of the step, the surface is very rugged and certainly not flat. There is in fact just earth on some parts. Hopefully the images attached will allow you to see.

My question is, can I just tile directly onto this? The top of the step is fine, but it's the sides I'm concerned about. There will be a gap between the top and the side unless I put a huge amount of tile adhesive in there to fill it. Thank you in anticipation for your help.

Hi Joel
You should be ok provided you are using a cementious adhesive i.e. one you mix with water and it sets chemically. It must be one for external use.
