Little man cave advice for wooden shed

by beechy68 » Wed Jun 03, 2020 10:51 pm

Hi I wondered if anyone could help please, single mum with no experience at all with DIY !
I have a new ish secondhand shed 8ft x 10ft, I want to make it in to a little man cave with electricity for my 11 year old son.
I have watched lots of youtube videos about insulating the walls, floor and ceiling. Its very confusing. my questiions are (sorry to sound thick)

1. do i need / use a lining (membrane) paper thing ?
2. Dripex double aluminium bubble foil insulating on a roll, or
polystyrene boards ?
3. Are either safe with electricity ?
4. Does it go lining - foil/poly - electrics - then plywood ?
5. will i need an air vent ?

Thank you in advance

Hi beechy68
Apologies for the delay in responding there was an issue with the approval of your post.
A shed is not a high specification building so there is little point in doing all the things you suggest. Stick with fitting polystyrene sheets between the framework of the shed, screw sheets mdf over this and screw to the frames (9mm should be thick enough) and put all your electrics on the surface of the sheeting. It doesn't matter if the sheets of polystyrene are thicker than the framing the sheets will sit over any gap. Do the same for the floor and cover with a piece of 'lino' of carpet.
It is essential top make sure the door can be unlocked from the inside so escape in the event of a fire can be made.
Regards S.

Will using polystyrene be warm enough for the kids to play in and possibly sleep over in ? Ever in winter ?
