Making joins look less straight for brick slip tiles

by gibbsjoh » Fri Jun 19, 2020 12:50 pm

Hello all, novice DIYer and first time poster here!

We've put up some brick slip tiles on a bedroom wall - they were large (30x50cm) tiles made to look as if they are made up of several smaller brick slips. Attached is a photo after one coat of paint.

As you can see, the areas where the tiles join together and have been grouted (also first time grouting for me!), the joins are really straight (horizontal) and really obvious (vertical) and don't look like the fake joins on the tiles themselves.

Aside from a second coat of paint to minimise the colour difference, is there anything that can be done to "mess up" the joins so they look worn, like the brick slips? I thought of maybe chipping away at the grout where it overlaps slightly on the tile, before the new coat of paint.

Any and all tips/suggestions welcome (apart from "what a lousy job, rip it down!" haha). (image is upside down for some reason but you can see what I mean).

Thx
John

Hi gibbsjoh,
Suggest you try using a matt paint which will disguise the joins better.
