Outside Light Wiring with no PIR Required

by Smithy85 » Sun Jun 28, 2020 5:49 pm

Hi All,

I’ve bought an outside light but not PIR so no permanent live required.

Could you help with identifying wire for neutral and live on my new light?

I have taken photos of internal switch first photo and wires outside as well to help.
Is the black covered in brown switched live but which is neutral on external and permanent live?

Thanks in advance

Without testing it is not possible to give a definitive answer, but my guess would be the one sleeved blue is the neutral and the one that is actually brown is the permanent live.

Thanks, I’ll test to confirm. Given I do not need the permanent live for this light, it is terminated in a ‘Choc block’ and covered in tape?

Looking at picture of switch, brown is always line, so not required, black with brown sleeve is switched line, and grey with blue sleeve is neutral.
