Hi All,
I am planning my first decking project and just wanted to confirm my plans see appropriate and ask a couple of questions.
The decking is to wrap around the house in a U- shape with a further section projecting into the garden. It will be a ground level deck with the top of the decking level with the turf. I am planning on constructing the frame and joists out of 6x2 treated C24 timber fixed using 100mm Forgefast screws. It total the decking area will be approx 45m2.
My questions are;
-Would I be able to use 4x2 instead of 6x2 to minimise the amount I need to dig out?
-Can the frame be sat on paving slabs/dense block, or would postcreted posts be required?
-Are joist hangers necessary or is it sufficient to fix the joists using the Forgefast screws.
-As I will be completing the project on my own, I was planning on building the frame in 4 sections and then bolting this together. Is this a reasonable approach?
Any help with the above would be greatly appreciated and please feel free to share and other tips.
Thanks,
Jimmy
