Repairing original victorian hearth tiles Advice and information on tiling and fixing tiles to a variety of surfaces

Hello! First time owner here trying to bring original features back into my Victorian tenement flat. I'm hoping you can give me advice on how to repair the original hearth tiles i've discovered on lifting the carpet. Its very damaged, as you can see from the photos, but I'm hoping i can repair it enough to look decent...i quite like that it tells a story! ive cleaned it as much as i can with sugar soap so tips on reparing the cracks, regrouting, and repairing the pocked surface and anuthing els you think i should do. I'm open to creative ideas or fiddly time consuming work
