Building Control Issue With Nearby Sewer

by Demo Dave » Wed Jul 29, 2020 9:52 pm

Hi there,
Be really glad if anyone can help. I am doing a renovation and getting a builder to do the structural work. He dug the footings for a side extension and they go 1M down we got them ok'd by the council building control and now its filled and up to dpc yet I have just received a letter from building control as if I haven’t started the build yet and there saying about a sewer nearby and that I may need special permission.

Has anyone had issues like this before and if they have already passed the footings do they have grounds to make me change them?

Hi demodave
Provided you have not built the new foundations on top of the sewer suggest you point out to BC that they have already inspected and approved the foundations.
The issue may well be with the local water board who may seek to get money off you for approval if you have a public sewer near to your foundations. Public sewers are those that serve more than one property.
