Discoloured/damp looking cracks in painted wall

by Silver27 » Tue Aug 04, 2020 4:29 pm

Hello
Not sure if posting in right place but i hope someone might have some advice..

We have a bedroom above an integral garage which I am concerned about - it has a general damp feel and is usually colder than other rooms.

There are lines in the painted wall (it's a wall which faces externally on the side of the house) that look like hairline cracks but have a brown damp/discoloured appearance. These lines are most prevalent in the lower part of the wall above the skirting board but extend up to about half-way up the wall.

We also have hairline cracks that extend from the window. The window frame at the top looks a bit rotten with black mould around it, and is probably due for replacement so that may be the cause of that.

We also have black mould on the sloping part of the ceiling. We get visible condensation running down this part of the ceiling. What might be causing that?

Any help or pointers much appreciated. A couple of pics are included.

Hi silver27
The cause of your problems is likely to be the lack of insulation - in the sloping part of the ceiling, in the walls and in the floor. None of these are easy to correct.
