Removal of protruding brickwork inside garage

by reyreyreyes » Mon Aug 17, 2020 9:26 pm

Hi all

I have a detached garage, and inside on each wall there is a 1 brick deep protrusion, which I'd like to remove in order to store timber horizontally along those walls, if possible.

Ideally, I'd like the whole thing removed.

I'm assuming my novice structural awareness skills are lacking and there's a good reason for this?

Thanks!

Hi reyreyreyes
A single skin wall over the length of a garage is not stable enough so piers are added about half way along to correct this issue. You must not remove the pier not only will it make the wall unstable but removing it will affect its stability even more because there are headers in the pier.

Thanks stoneyboy.

Glad I didn't get a bit carried away and make a start in that case! :D
