Wooden fence preservative for treated fence and gravel boards

by bbb » Thu Aug 20, 2020 2:54 pm

Hi,

Hopefully a quick and simple answer to this =)

Just had a new garden fence put it - concrete posts and gravel boards, with wooden panels.

It's treated timber but I want to be thorough and was to put some preservative on it - I was intending just to use a clear wood preserver from Screwfix. I want to keep it the natural wooden finish - so no paint or stains.

What I want to know is: is there anything else that I should use - either in addition to the wood preserver or instead of...? Or is this just over-complicating things?

Hi bbb
Not sure why you would apply further protection - in a concrete post/gravel board surround physical damage is more likely than rot/decay. Preservative will not stop loss of colour due to sunlight. If you want to use a preservative you will have to check for compatibility with the existing treatment.
