Do shed bearers need securing please?

by ohdearme » Fri Aug 14, 2020 5:50 pm

Hello, I have just joined. I have my concrete base ready and need to know if the shed weight will hold the timber bearers or if I need to secure them to the concrete base. If so how please?
Regards

Hi ohdearme
Probably better (and easier) to screw the shed to the bearers.

Thanks, but couldn't the whole thing come over? It's just a small shed?

Hi ohdearme
If your shed is on the top of a hill in Scotland then yes it could move. If you want to secure it, make the outer bearers longer and secure them outside the shed footprint.

I've decided to secure the bearers to the concrete, all I have to do now is to findout how? I have no hammer drill.

Thanks and regards to all

Kind of you stoneyboy. I have now bought a hammer drill, so it seems to start again.

What would you advise, should I secure the timber bearers to the concrete base and /or secure the shed to the bearers? Both either?
That's why my user name is ohdearme!
If securing, now that I am a proud owner of a hammer drill, what fixings would you use please.
Best

Hi ohdearme
Have you checked whether your shed comes with a floor with bearers?
If yes and you are fitting extra bearers these need to run at right angles to those under the floor.
For ease of fixing it's probably worth using right angle brackets and screws into the concrete and bearers, then screw your shed floor down onto this.
