Proximity of Doorway to Landing Ballustrade

by Selfbuildaddict » Wed Sep 09, 2020 6:47 pm

Hi, I'm having a debate with my builder currently regarding the permitted proximity of a first floor doorway to the landing balustrade.

I can find references to door openings and bottom / top of stairs in building regs Part K. This is a door opening at 90 degrees to the balustrade and 2.5m distance from the top of the actual stairs.

My builder says door must be 400mm from balustrade but I have built a similar design before and balustrade was much closer to the door opening. Door opens into a bedroom not onto the landing

Hi selfbuildaddict
I think the door opening must not be nearer than 400mm to any part of the stair treads and neither must the swept area of the door itself.
Regards S
