Second Opinion on new radiators and prevention of corrosion

by August » Fri Sep 14, 2007 11:54 am

I am getting a new chrome radiator for my bathroom. The plumber has connected it to extension pipes which is metal and has copper plating (I think). Whilst the plumber has assured me that this is fine and would not lead to rust, I am still very concerned.

Alternatively, he said that he could change the extension pipes to a material similar to the chrome radiator for aesthetics - however this doesn't overcome my initial concerns as the pipe work which leads to the combi boiler must be metal with copper plating???

Urgent advices required please.
Thanks

I don't fully understand your concerns.

I'd imagine he would of used copper pipe which most heating installations are.

Heating systems should consist of copper pipe or plastic pipe. Steel pipework is used in commercial heating systems but not on domestic.

Chrome plated copper pipes are used for aesthetic purposes. But never heard of or come across copper plated pipes. It's either copper pipe or it's not.

Inhibitors can be added to heating systems to prevent corrosion. I've tried to answer the best I can. I hope it's helped. If not can you provide abit more info.
