What is this bathroom ceiling material, I want to screw a light fitting into it but I don't know what screws to get Information, help and tips on many areas of roofing including trusses, tiling, venting, insulation etc....

We have just moved into our new house and need to replace the bathroom light fitting but I am unsure of this white material situated between the plaster and a thin layer of what looks like chipboard?

Also with the identification of this material can someone point me in the direction of which screws and/or plugs to use to ensure a fairly heavy light fitting will be secured to the ceiling?

Looks like a piece of chipboard has been fitted above the plasterboard and the light position. Try putting in a wood screw and see if it holds.
