Fixing wooden front door paint fail

by melissa_s83 » Mon Sep 21, 2020 7:27 pm

Hi really greatful for any advice. Painted my front door with zinnser exterior satin. It’s wooden but had a coating on it. Didn’t apply primer as many neighbours have done successfully. Looked great and then started to get a few white hairlike marks like photo. Altho these brushed off and disappeared during the day. Anyway I thought it needed sealed and applied polyvine decorators varnish and now it’s a mess ! See photo. Can anyone suggest what I need to do to fix this please. Afraid to sand encase it makes it worse :(! I’ve noticed it seems to get this when temperature drops . Thankyou

Hi melissa_s83
Sadly I think you are going to have to strip the door back to bare wood and start again. I suspect the problem is that you have used paints with different solvents - Zinnser is water based.
You could try contacting the supplier of the Zinnser and see if they can offer a solution.
Regards S
